 !! UNIBODY !!
Hello All!
All Chimera Synthesis products (both bC & SM ranges) are now being produced using the UNIBODY process (basically hewn from a billet of high grade aluminium alloy).
Black and Silver are the new White...

We are updating the website over the next day or two with pix and extra options. All bC16's will now come with a DC input socket. Prices will remain the same for a limited period.
All existing bC16 orders & back-orders will be fulfilled very shortly with UNIBODY bC16's (unless you would like a white/plastic unit specifically).
We will be contacting all customers with outstanding bC16 orders to ask them to select a colour options.

Why have you moved to UNIBODY construction?
We can offer more colours, we built some bC16's out of black acrylic awhile back, but the plastic manufacturers used a 'filler' in the plastic which meant it didn't cut well and left 'green' edges.
The newly installed Chimera Synthesis machining centre has the horse-power to cut aluminium (and indeed stainless steels and titanium...), with 4-axis machining we can also put connectors accuratly in places we couldn't with 3-axis machining.
Typically the acrylic thickness would vary by as much as 10%, this required alot of extra steps prior to machining and 'bin' matching of sections during final assembly. The UNIBODY aluminium units are within consistent within a few millionths of metre - we also now have 'in-process' probing to monitor quality.
Time-for-a-change!

 Unibody

Are the colour choices anodized?

All these improvements are tempting me
When using a simple midi keyboard ,or a pitch to midi device like the Sonuus G2M, I'd like to be able to turn on and set the portamento rate with the BC16 Knobs. I'd prefer to use the knobs #1 (VCO FREQ) and #2 (VCO SCALE) to control portamento when connected to midi, rather than have them control arpeggiator speed and mode - is this possible?
Will there be an option to have the legends for Knob functions and banana jacks engraved into the aluminium?
BC, I'm very interested in the X-Wind too; will this product eventually be produced using the "Unibody" process?
If I ordered a BC16 in Black & Silver, would I be guaranteed to get it before Xmas?

Ok, I can admit when good news is good news. IF I ever get my bC16, having DC in is excellent.

Great news! You keep surprising us with new features.
I'm also interested in the colouring process. Will a black unit be more durable? Will the delivery time for a black unit be longer as well?

Hi All,
I'm updating the site today, with more infomation re: unibody bC16.
At present the two anodising options are black and silver and at present two options for the insulator plate are black and white. We have kept the electronics and software identical between the white and unibody bC16's.
As we have introduced another step (anoidising) into the mix, we are slightly beholden to the anodising company, but we choose the best and the quality is really top-notch.
Customer service email should be fully running tonight, and emails sent out to.
More news later. I've just tweeted a couple of pix of two unibody shells on my desk (both scrap - one was a test piece, the other has a broken tap in it).

Those images are incredible. I can't think of any other synthesizers made from a block of milled aluminum. The appearance is almost intimidating. It's like something out of either Pimp My Ride or a James Bond movie.

Another gratuitous shot on Twitter of a unibody paperweight.

Ben, can you tweet a pic of an assembled example if you have one around? Would be nice to see the completed look.

With cables attached, the unibody design will most likely not get you through airport security

Roy - as an pix of the complete unibodies are likely to be picked up by various other sites, I would like to take my time and do some really nice photos, rather than the some dodgy compressed tweets taken with a 3G. Next week at some point, especially when we get some more anoidised goodies back.
